Curriculum Vitae of Malcolm L. Spaulding

Dr. Malcolm L. Spaulding is Professor of Ocean Engineering at the University of Rhode Island (URI), Narragansett, RI and has been a faculty member since 1973 (Assistant Professor, 1973, Associate Professor, 1977 and Professor, 1983). He served as Chair of the department from 1992-2002. Dr. Spaulding is an internationally recognized expert in marine environmental modeling with a primary focus in the areas of hydrodynamics, pollutant transport and fate, oil spill transport and fate, and the development of integrated model and data information systems. He has led the development of several widely used oil spill transport and fate (OILMAP), hydrodynamic, and water quality models (WQMAP), and integrated coastal data and information management systems (COASTMAP). He lead the formation of Applied Science Associates, Inc (ASA) (www.asascience.com), a leading worldwide provider of environmental modeling systems and services in 1979. ASA currently has offices in the US, Brazil, and Australia. He is widely published in the field of marine environmental modeling and has served as the principal organizer and chairman of the biannual International Estuarine and Coastal Modeling conference series (10 to date). Dr Spaulding also served on the National Research Council (NRC) Marine Board and numerous technical panels over the past two decades. He recently led the formation of the Center of Excellence in Undersea Technology (COEUT) and currently serves as its Director.
